My darling son
It's hard to believe that three years ago I was going through a labour I would not wish on anyone
And today you're this charming, gorgeous, loving being that I can't seem to stop thinking about
Today, on your last day of being a two-year-old, you told me three things before you fell asleep
One, that you wanna see Baba, as he has been away for 3 days
Two, that you miss Alya (funny that, you spent the whole day with her)
Three, in your normal fashion, "I want Mama, Mama", to which I would answer "And I want Zain, Zain".
I always joke, that you probably say the word "Mama" three thousand times a day
You do, you know
And I don't know if when you're reading this, you are at an age where you say Mama in exasperation (I hope this never happens)
But I am honoured Zain
I am honoured that you run to me when I get home
I'm honoured that only I can bring you to the toilet, dress you and a plethora of other seemingly mundane duties
I'm honoured that you make a fuss when I leave you to go to work
I'm honoured that you say Mama like I'm the most important person in the world
I'm honoured that at the end of each day, you tell me I wanna go back to Mama's house
I'm honoured to be your Mama.
The other day, you were laying in bed
And I came to you and pressed my ear to your chest to listen for wheezing
And you said, "What's wrong Mama?"
I said nothing's wrong darling.
You said, "Oooooh you love me!"
and I said of course I love you
You said, "That's amazing!"
It is, isn't it Zain
It is amazing how much Mama loves you
What's more amazing is that I will always feel this way.
I love you more than you'll ever know, Zain
